THE WORLD OF SHIKI

What began with SHIKI Japanese Fine Dining | Brasserie | Bar – a restaurant where Japanese culinary artistry, European accents, and refined service culture come together at the highest level – has evolved into an entire universe: The World of SHIKI. With the opening of the SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek, this world now expands into a new dimension – a heartfelt project by Joji Hattori that unites pleasure, culture, and craftsmanship in unique harmony.

With the SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek, Joji Hattori pursues a vision that goes far beyond cuisine: to create a space where the depth and beauty of Japanese culture can be experienced in its entirety. Inspired by his lifelong connection to both Japan and Europe, this project brings together his passion for hospitality, aesthetics, and craftsmanship. The SHIKI Boutique | Sakethek combines three closely intertwined realms of experience under one roof: a stylishly curated boutique featuring selected art objects from Japanese ateliers, a Sakethek (sake bar and shop) where premium sake can not only be purchased but also tasted, and an exclusive eight-seat omakase restaurant where culinary precision and sake pairings are celebrated at the highest level. A special highlight here is the counter, where guests can watch the chef prepare sushi and other Japanese delicacies with great artistry.

Join us in exploring a new dimension of the World of SHIKI – and discover the quiet, sensual diversity of Japanese culture.

SHIKI BOUTIQUE

The SHIKI Boutique is more than a space for beauty – it is a curated dialogue between Japanese craftsmanship, timeless aesthetics, and living culture. Joji Hattori has carefully assembled a selection of objects that reflect tradition and the art of craftsmanship in its purest form: from fine lacquerware and delicate pewter work to hand-forged knives and exquisite porcelain. Many of these items are available in Europe for the first time – exclusively at the SHIKI Boutique. Minimalist elegance and thoughtful details make the boutique a holistic experience, where the quiet power of craftsmanship unfolds: a place where Japanese culture can be explored with all senses – and taken home in the form of special pieces.

Behind the selected objects are traditional manufacturers who embody Japanese craftsmanship at the highest level – more on that HERE.

THE WORLD OF SAKE

Sake is one of Japan’s oldest cultural treasures – and still a rarity in Europe. For over 2,000 years, “Nihonshu” has been brewed, yet its fine nuances, depth, and complexity often remain hidden in the West. Not least because the journey from brewery to European glass is especially demanding.

With the SHIKI Sakethek, Joji Hattori is dedicating himself to a heartfelt mission: to make the diversity, refinement, and cultural significance of Japan’s national drink tangible at the highest level in Vienna. Already at SHIKI Japanese Fine Dining, sake holds a firm place – carefully stored, precisely tempered, and perfectly paired with each dish. With the new Sakethek – unique in Europe – this commitment now receives its own stage: here, it’s all about discovery, tasting, and understanding – with time, depth, and respect.

Expertise, Trust, and Authenticity

The exclusive selection is curated in close collaboration with Yuri Iwata, founder of SAKE no BA and one of Europe’s leading experts in Japanese sake. Her partnership with SHIKI is built on mutual trust – developed over many years and countless journeys to Japan’s top breweries. She knows the philosophy behind each product, the people who craft it, and the unique characteristics of each region. Thanks to her expertise, sake of exceptional quality and rarity can be brought to Vienna under perfect conditions – authentic, respectful, and with cultural depth.

On select days, Yuri Iwata is personally present to lead tastings, offer personalized recommendations, and open doors into the fascinating world of sake. She is supported by a trained team who guide guests through the range of varieties with enthusiasm and professional precision.

Whether you’re curious or a connoisseur: the SHIKI Sakethek invites you to experience sake in its full breadth – as a reflection of an ancient culture, as a companion to fine cuisine, and as an expression of liquid perfection.
